[1]A versatile pointing dog from France
The FCI gives France as its origin and describes pointing work and tracking wounded large game. E.K. Korthals renewed and improved the breed in the late 19th century.
[1]A sturdy body slightly longer than tall
FCI describes a vigorous medium-sized dog, with body length 5–10% greater than height. The muzzle is long and square; bushy eyebrows leave the eyes visible, with a well-developed beard and moustache.
[1]A harsh coat with brown-toned patterns
The harsh, bristle-like coat has a fine, dense undercoat and is neither curly nor woolly. FCI prefers steel grey with liver patches or solid liver; liver roan and closely mixed liver/white hairs are frequent. White/brown and white/orange coats are also permitted.
