Catahoula Leopard Dog

Temperament
Independent, Loyal, Watchful
[1]A working dog with roots in Louisiana
The AKC describes it as the only breed historically originating in Louisiana. It has served as a stock dog, bay and tree dog, watchdog, guard dog and companion.
[1]A powerful yet agile build
The AKC profile describes a medium-to-large, short-coated working dog that is muscular and powerful, with agility and endurance.
[1]A wide range of coat and eye colors
AKC registration lists black, blue, yellow, red, chocolate, brindle, and blue, red, white or yellow merle, with tan markings and white trim also listed. These are registration labels; the list does not establish universal conformation eligibility.
[1]UKC coat and white-marking rules
The UKC standard specifies a short-to-medium single coat, smooth to coarse. It prefers no particular pattern, including leopard, solid, brindle or patchwork, although rich, deep colour is preferred between dogs of equal quality. White covering at least 70% is a serious fault; at least 90% white, or an entirely white head, is a disqualification.
