[4]Background and human relationship
A long-established dog of southern coastal China, associated with Dali in Guangdong. Its distinctive skin and face can be considered alongside build and colour.
[1]Build and coat
A compact square medium dog with head and withers wrinkles, small ears and a broad hippopotamus-like muzzle. Body and limb balance matter beyond the number of wrinkles.
[1]Colour and comparisons
JKC permits self-colours other than white. Tail and rear thighs may be lighter, while back and ears may be darker; related shading differs from large contrasting white patches.
[1]Coat texture and colour in the UKC standard
UKC describes a very harsh single coat, ranging from the extremely short horse coat to a brush coat up to one inch at the withers. It accepts solid colours or sable, a registry-specific description to read alongside JKC’s self-colour criteria.
