[3]What the historical records establish
The FCI standard cites writings and images from 1864 and 1923–24 as historical support for a long-haired sheepdog type in the Chodsko region of Czechia. It explicitly says they do not prove the origins of present-day dogs.
[1]Herding and guarding
Historical descriptions say these regional dogs gathered cattle and guarded homes and livestock. The current FCI standard classifies the breed as a versatile working dog.
[1]Build and colour
Medium-sized and slightly elongated, it has a long coat with a rich undercoat for weather resistance. Short erect ears and vivid tan markings on a black-to-gunmetal-black ground are features specified in the FCI standard.
