[3]Background and human relationship
A Sahelian sighthound associated with pastoral and hunting communities around the Azawakh valley. European development followed an imported line in 1968.

Extremely lean and long-legged, with bone and muscle visible beneath thin skin. Its tall rectangular proportions invite comparison through chest depth and leg length.
[1]Colour and comparisons
JKC specifies fawn from pale sand to dark mahogany, with or without black brindling or a black mask. White on legs and feet and limited chest markings contrasts with the warm ground colour.
