Pyrenean Sheepdog - Smooth Faced

Temperament
Lively, Biddable, Wary of strangers
[1]A dog of Pyrenean livestock country
The FCI standard places the smooth-faced variety in the Pyrenean foothills and cites a 1927 breed-club account describing its value to horse traders and cattle drovers. Its distinguishing features from other Pyrenean Sheepdogs led to a separate appendix in the standard in the 1920s.
[1]How it differs from the long-coated type
The FCI standard says the smooth-faced dog shares the overall characteristics of the long-coated Pyrenean Sheepdog, but has a slightly shorter, squarer body. Hair on the head is short and fine, and the muzzle is longer than in the long- or semi-long-coated types.
[1]Details beyond the smooth face
Smooth-faced does not mean that the entire dog has a short coat. The legs are covered in smooth hair, with a light fringe on the forelegs and breeches on the hindlegs; the standard also describes a shorter stride than in the long-coated variety.
