Temperament
Alert, Intelligent, Eager
[2]An Australian sheepdog
The Working Kelpie Council traces the breed to descendants of three pairs of working Collies imported into Australia. An early bitch named Kelpie, and the trial success of her daughter given the same name, contributed to the breed’s name.
[1]Mustering sheep and livestock across open country
AKC describes gathering and moving sheep and other livestock in open country and yards. Its profile describes a medium-sized, lithe, active and strongly muscled dog, built for sustained work.
[2]A lithe, short-coated working build
The WKC standard published by AKC describes a moderately short, flat, straight, weather-resistant coat, with or without a short dense undercoat. It accepts colours and markings historically associated with the breed, including black, blue-grey, red and fawn with or without tan, and tan shades extending to cream.
