Abruzzes and Maremma Shepherd Dog
Temperament
Guardian, Perceptive, Devoted
[3]Background and human relationship
An Italian guardian of flocks and land associated with Abruzzo, Maremma and neighbouring areas. Seasonal flock movements brought regional dogs together. Its names reflect the Abruzzese-Maremmano guardian tradition.
[1]Build and coat
A large robust dog, longer than tall, with substance and balanced outline. Superficial resemblance to other large white guardians, such as the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, does not erase regional and breed distinctions.
[1]Colour and comparisons
The basic colour is solid white, with ivory, pale orange or lemon shading allowed within limits by JKC. Subtle shading differs from large sharply bounded patches, and lighting can also affect apparent warmth.
