[1]An AKC category containing two coat types
AKC explicitly describes two coat types within Segugio Italiano: short-haired Pelo Raso and wire-haired Pelo Forte. It lists fawn or black and tan and describes a tenacious hunting hound.
[1]The short-haired type has a separate FCI standard
The short-haired Italian hound in FCI standard 337 is used especially for hare and wild-boar hunting. Its short, straight, horse-hair-textured coat may be fawn or black/tan. White is permitted only in specified areas on fawn dogs, and less white is preferred.
[2]The rough-haired type’s beard and harsh coat
The rough-haired hound in FCI standard 198 has balanced, square proportions. Harsh body hair is at most 5 cm long; brows leave the eyes visible and a beard forms beneath the lips. Colours are fawn or black/tan; black/tan dogs may have only a white chest star.
