[3]A history of fox and raccoon hunting
UKC first registered the English Fox & Coonhound in 1905. Treeing Walker dogs were originally registered within this category but became a separate breed in 1945; Blueticks followed a year later.
[1]A hound build for sustained work
UKC describes a strong, balanced dog built for speed and endurance, square or slightly longer than tall. The chest reaches the elbows, the back is straight and strong, and the loin is muscular.
[1]Several ticking patterns
The medium-length coat is hard and protective. UKC colours are redtick, bluetick, tricolour with ticking, white and red, white and black, and white and lemon. Brindle, albinism and unlisted colours or combinations are disqualifying.
[1]Height and marking limits in the AKC document
The breed standard in AKC’s competition rulebook amended in 2021 gives males 24–26 inches and females 23–25 inches. It disqualifies tricolour without ticking, solid colour with less than 10% ticking and any brindle.
