[1]One of Belgium’s herding dogs
The FCI lists Laekenois as one of four Belgian Shepherd Dog varieties. The AKC treats Belgian Laekenois as a separate breed entry and granted full recognition in 2020.
[1]A balanced herding-dog build
The current individual AKC standard describes a square, well-balanced, strong, agile and muscular dog. It also notes an inherent aptitude for guarding flocks and fields, reflecting its herding-dog role.
[2]A coarse, tousled coat in red and fawn tones
The current AKC standard calls for a rough, coarse double coat with a tousled look and a beard on the muzzle; the tail should not form a plume. Colours range from red and fawn to greyish tones, with black appearing mainly on the muzzle and tail.
