Schipperke

Temperament
Alert, Curious, Confident
[3]Background and human relationship
A Belgian dog associated with Flanders, guarding and vermin work, its name meaning little shepherd. It appeared at shows in 1882 and received its first standard in 1888.
[1]Build and coat
Small but robust, with a relatively short broad body and firm legs. Coat furnishings around the neck and shoulders shape a characteristic outline beyond simply being a small black dog.
[1]Colour and comparisons
JKC specifies solid black, permitting dark-grey undercoat if fully covered by the outer coat. Surface colour and undercoat colour are distinct observations.
