[3]Revival in Russia
The English Toy Terrier was popular in Russia early in the 20th century, but breeding nearly stopped from 1920 to 1950. Russian breeders began reviving the stock in the mid-1950s, after which the breed developed along its own path.
[1]Build and expression
This small dog has long legs, fine bone and lean muscles. Its body is nearly square, with a small head and large erect ears; the FCI standard describes it as active and cheerful, neither cowardly nor aggressive.
[1]The longhaired variety emerged from smooth-haired parents
The FCI standard records that on October 12, 1958, a male was born to two smooth-haired dogs, one of which had a slightly longer coat. He showed striking fringes on his ears and limbs, and this trait was retained to develop the longhaired variety.
