Bluetick Coonhound

Temperament
Devoted, Smart, Tenacious
[3]A scent hound developed in the United States
AKC history material says the Bluetick developed in the United States from French hounds crossed with English Foxhounds and other hounds. Its ability to follow older scent trails is a defining coonhound trait.
[1]A hunter that follows raccoons and other game
The breed follows quarry such as raccoons by scent and trees it. The AKC standard describes a bawl or bugle voice on the trail, which may change to a steady chop when running, and a steady coarse chop at the tree.
[2]A short coat with blue-black ticking
The short, glossy coat appears bluish from dense black-and-blue ticking, which gives the breed its name. A body with more blue ticking than white is preferred; the build is muscular and sleek rather than chunky.
