Originating from a 1981 Persian–European Burmese cross, the breed was developed around the contrast between pale roots and coloured tips.

A medium muscular body, gently rounded head, green eyes and dark facial outlines accompany a silky coat.

Longhair and shorthair forms occur. Hair length and the extent of tipping or shading are separate characteristics.
