Rhodesian Ridgeback

Temperament
Dignified, Affectionate, Even-tempered
[3]Background and human relationship
A southern African hunting dog used in small groups to track and hold game at bay until the hunter arrived. Its first standard was drafted in 1922 and approved in South Africa in 1926.
[1]Build and coat
Strong, muscular and athletic, with a dorsal ridge formed by hair growing in the reverse direction. The ridge tapers from behind the shoulders toward the hips; it is hair direction rather than a coloured stripe.
[1]Colour and comparisons
Light wheaten to red wheaten may have limited chest or toe white and a dark muzzle or ears. Excessive white or black hair is undesirable; the ridge is independent of the ground colour.
