[4]Breeding began in Styria in 1870

[1]A hound for tracking wounded game in mountains
Its work includes both giving tongue during hunts and tracking wounded game across difficult mountain terrain. The standard describes a passionate, tough hunting dog and determined tracker.
[1]A harsh coat suited to rough weather
It is a medium-sized, muscular scent hound. The rough, harsh coat helps resist bad weather; the hair is shorter on the head and forms a moustache. The standard allows red or fawn, with a white chest marking.
