[1]A large guardian of flocks and property
Its primary work is guarding livestock and property. The UKC standard describes a large, strongly built, slightly longer-than-tall dog with a rustic appearance and an alert, assertive working temperament.

The coat is long, harsh and straight, lying close to the body, although a slight wave is allowed. The undercoat changes with the seasons and the base color is white; pale ivory, orange or lemon shades are tolerated but should not be pronounced.
