Grand Griffon Vendeen

Temperament
Docile, Wilful
[1]A line developed from old Vendéen hounds
The FCI standard’s historical account traces the breed to the short-haired Grand Vendéen of the early 16th century, later combined with Griffon types. It names the King’s White Hound and the Fawn Brittany Griffon among the reported contributors.
[1]A French hound for large game and cold trails
It hunts stag, roe deer, wild boar and fox, generally in a pack or alone on a lead to pick up an older scent trail. The standard describes a fine nose, a strong voice and willingness to enter thorny cover.
[1]A harsh long coat in varied hound colors
The build is robust without heaviness. Long, coarse, hard outer hair covers a dense undercoat; FCI lists black-and-white, black-and-tan, white-and-orange and tricolour among the accepted patterns.
