A large scenthound that follows quarry on land and in water. AKC highlights an exceptionally sensitive nose, persistence in investigating scent and broad feet with membranes between the toes.
[1]An imposing head and long folded ears
The strong body is slightly longer than tall, with a deep chest and substantial legs. Low-set ears hang with a folded leading edge, their leather reaching at least to the nose when extended.
[1]A harsh outer coat and water-resistant undercoat
A coarse, crisp outer coat covers short, woolly, slightly oily undercoat that resists water. AKC gives 2–4 inches for the outer coat on the back, valuing texture over length, and permits any colour or combination.
