[1]A U.S. Cur bred for performance over uniform looks
The UKC standard says Cur breeds developed in remote rural parts of the United States, where performance mattered more than a uniform appearance. Families with limited means valued a dog that could hunt, guard and work stock.
[1]Finding game and treeing quarry
Its principal quarry includes squirrels, raccoons and various big game. The standard says it finds game with sight, hearing and scent; it may bark, give voice intermittently or stay silent on the track, then signal when quarry is treed.
[1]A practical dog with varied size and color
It is a powerful, agile small-to-medium dog with legs suited to quick movement over rough ground. The standard says Treeing Curs vary especially widely in size and color, and accepts short-to-medium smooth or rough coats and any color or pattern.
