[3]From two French strains
The UKC standard says French breeders combined the Normand strain from Normandy with the Artesien strain from Artois to form the breed known today.
[1]Build and gait
The UKC standard gives an approximate body-length-to-height ratio of 8:5 and describes a well-made, balanced, long dog. It also describes the gait as sound and moving with great gaiety.
[1]Short coat and colours
The coat is short, smooth and close to the body. The UKC standard accepts tri-colour or fawn-and-white and describes a long, unplumed tail carried in a sabre shape.
