Irish Water Spaniel

Temperament
Playful, Hardworking, Brave
[3]Background and classification
An Irish waterfowling spaniel with uncertain detailed ancestry, associated with an old tradition of water-resistant hunting dogs. A breed club formed in 1890.
[1]Appearance and coat
A strong compact body has a distinctive rat-like or whip tail. The contrast between the body’s coat and tail outline provides a comparison with other spaniels.
[1]Coat and comparisons
JKC specifies very deep puce-liver, a rich brown with a reddish or purplish cast rather than black. Chest white is undesirable, contrasting with white-ground patterned spaniels.
