[1]A Swiss hound with four regional varieties
The FCI standard notes hounds resembling Swiss Hounds in a mosaic from Roman Helvetia. One standard covers four varieties: Bernese, Jura, Lucerne and Schwyz.
[1]A hound that tracks over difficult ground
It hunts hare, roe deer, fox and sometimes boar. It is a medium-sized hound that tracks independently and persistently, giving tongue over difficult ground.
[1]Coat colors distinguish the four varieties
Bernese Hounds are white with black and tan; Jura Hounds are black and tan or tan with a black blanket. Lucerne Hounds combine black and white hairs into a speckled blue appearance, with black and tan markings. Schwyz Hounds are white and orange. All four have short, smooth coats.
