[1]From white-coated German Shepherd lines
The UKC standard describes it as a direct descendant of the German Shepherd Dog. After white coats fell out of favor in the late 1930s, breeders preserved white lines, and the UKC recognized it as a separate breed in 1999.
[1]A working dog with herding and guarding instincts
The muscular, balanced body has a UKC length-to-height ratio of 10:8. The standard describes herding and protective instincts, openness with familiar people and watchfulness around strangers.
[1]A double coat with pure white preferred
UKC regards pure white as ideal and accepts very light cream to light biscuit tan as less-preferred shades. Dense, straight, harsh outer hair covers short, thick, fine undercoat.
[1]A standard difference from the White Swiss Shepherd
FCI’s White Swiss Shepherd standard specifies white and a body-length-to-height ratio of 12:10. Despite the related names, its colour and proportion criteria should be read separately from UKC’s White Shepherd standard.
