Schnauzer
Temperament
Fearless, Smart, Spirited
[3]Background and classification
A southern German stable guard and rat catcher, it was called Rough-haired Pinscher when the club formed in 1895. FCI’s Schnauzer corresponds to the Standard Schnauzer of JKC and other registries.
[1]Appearance and coat
A robust medium-sized body carries harsh fur and characteristic eyebrows and beard. Miniature and Giant Schnauzers remain distinct breeds, with their own size and colour provisions.
[1]Coat and comparisons
JKC lists solid black with black undercoat and pepper-and-salt, from dark iron grey to silver grey, with grey undercoat and a dark mask. This differs from sharply placed pale markings on a black-and-silver coat.
