[3]Background and human relationship
Known also as Do-Khyi, with roles in Himalayan nomadic life and guarding Tibetan monasteries. A dog sent to Queen Victoria in 1847 is documented. The proposition that it founded all mastiffs is not treated as established fact.
[1]Build and coat
A substantial powerful dog with strong bone. JKC describes slow maturity, at two to three years in females and at least four in males. Juvenile and mature builds are therefore different stages for comparison.
[1]Colour and comparisons
Colours include black, black-and-tan, blue, blue-and-tan and gold from deep fawn to red. Tan occurs above the eyes, on legs and beneath the tail, with muzzle and eye markings. Limited chest and foot white is allowed.
