[4]A hound developed in the Ariège region
FCI describes an Ariège-region breed created by crossing a local Briquet hound with a larger packhound. It names the Bleu de Gascogne or Gascon Saintongeois as possible larger-breed contributors.
[1]An agile hound especially suited to hare
It is used mainly for hare, but also for roe deer and boar. It can work alone or in a pack, and the standard notes its agility over difficult ground.
[1]A light build and short black-and-white coat
It is a lighter, elegant medium-sized hound than the larger types in its history. The short coat is white with clear black patches, sometimes mottled, with pale tan on the cheeks and above the eyes.
