American Foxhound

Temperament
Independent, Easy-going, Sweet-tempered
[4]Background and human relationship
An American fox-hunting hound developed from dogs brought from Britain, including imports in 1650, with other hound influences. British and French hounds kept by George Washington are associated with its foundation.
[1]Build and coat
A relatively long head and muzzle have low-set long pendulous ears. Large brown or hazel eyes give a soft hound expression, contrasting with upright-eared hunting dogs or shorter-faced breeds.
[2]Colour and comparisons
JKC and UKC do not restrict colour. Markings alone are therefore insufficient for identification; head, ears and overall hound form matter. The English Foxhound remains a separate breed.
