[2]A Pyrenean sheepdog
The UKC standard traces it to the French Pyrenees and describes a sheepdog used to work livestock. It is small but light and agile.
[1]Rough-faced and smooth-faced types
UKC treats Rough-Faced and Smooth-Faced dogs as two varieties of one breed. The Smooth-Faced variety has short, fine muzzle hair, a somewhat shorter body and semi-long or shorter body hair.
[1]A coat with varied length and color
The rough-faced coat may be long or semi-long, with a harsh texture between goat hair and sheep wool. Standard colours include fawn, grey, merle, brindle, black, and black with white markings; a little white is allowed on the chest, head and feet. Solid colours are preferred; oversized or misplaced white patches and black-and-tan colouring are faults, while solid white and albinism are disqualifications.
[1]Registry-specific treatment of coat types
UKC and AKC include Rough-Faced and Smooth-Faced dogs as two varieties of one breed. FCI publishes separate standards for the Long-Haired and Smooth-Faced entries.
