Developed through efforts to restore an older King Charles Spaniel type. Its longer muzzle distinguishes it from the shorter-faced King Charles despite the related name.

A small balanced companion with a gentle expression. It has a separate standard from the similarly named King Charles Spaniel.
[1]Coat and comparisons
Four divisions are black and tan, ruby, Blenheim and tricolour. Blenheim has chestnut on white, whereas ruby is red throughout.
