[3]A breed developed from Poodle and Pointer
The FCI standard published in 2004 describes the German Pudelpointer as a rough-coated pointing dog developed from Poodle and Pointer. Its history combines retained Poodle traits with the Pointer’s scenting ability, fast, wide-ranging search and firm pointing.
[1]A gundog for fields, woods and water
The FCI standard gives its use as a versatile working gundog for fields, woods and water. It classifies the breed among continental pointing dogs, with a working trial.
[1]A slightly longer body and height ranges
The FCI standard specifies a body-length-to-height ratio of 10:9. Height at the withers is 60–68 cm for males and 55–63 cm for females. It describes a short, straight back and a broad, deep chest with well-arched ribs that are not barrel-shaped.
[1]Beard, forelock and a harsh double coat
The coat is close-lying, hard and rough, with a dense undercoat. FCI gives a topcoat length of 4–6 cm at the withers and describes a beard and forelock. Colours are solid brown, dead-leaf or black; small white markings are permitted.
