Smart, Brave, Courteous
[2]Developed from English Walker Foxhounds
The UKC history credits George Washington Maupin and John W. Walker of Kentucky with developing the Walker Foxhound. A 19th-century cross with a dog of unknown origin called Tennessee Lead also influenced the line; the UKC began registering Treeing Walkers separately in 1945.

It is a balanced, graceful, symmetrical hound. The coat is short, smooth and dense. White, black and tan is preferred, while the standard also permits patterns such as white with black or tan markings.
