Griffon Bruxellois

Temperament
Alert, Proud, Watchful
[1]From a small Brussels dog
The FCI standard traces the Griffon Bruxellois and its related breeds to the small rough-coated “Smousje” of the Brussels area. It says 19th-century Ruby King Charles Spaniel and Pug bloodlines helped establish the modern type.
[1]A small, nearly square companion
The standard describes a small companion dog whose body length is nearly equal to its height, with good bone and elegant movement. Its large head has an almost human expression; rough, slightly wavy hair forms the brows, beard and moustache.
[1]Red shades
The FCI standard accepts red and reddish coats, allowing a little black in the head furnishings. This distinguishes it from the Griffon Belge, whose standard colours are black or black and tan.
