Petit Brabançon

Temperament
Alert, Proud, Watchful
[4]Developed from a small Brussels dog
The FCI standard traces the three Belgian breeds, including the Petit Brabançon, to a small Brussels dog called the Smousje. Ruby King Charles Spaniel and Pug blood was introduced in the 19th century; the dogs guarded carriages and kept stable rodents down.
[1]The short-coated Petit Brabançon
In the shared FCI standard, the Brussels Griffon and Belgian Griffon are rough-coated, while the Petit Brabançon is short-coated. The distinction is therefore the coat type, not merely a different color.
[1]Sturdy and nearly square
This small dog is robustly built yet moves with elegance. The standard allows the same colors as the Griffons, identifies a dark mask as characteristic and gives a weight range of 3.5–6 kg.
