A scent hound shaped by Poland’s forests

The Polish Hunting Dog, or Gończy Polski, originates in Poland. Its FCI standard notes scent-hound hunting in 13th-century Polish literature and describes Poland as a land of deep forests and big game where hounds aided hunters.

A medium hound for boar and deer

It is used mainly for hunting boar and deer, and also fox and hare in the mountains of southern Poland. The standard describes a characteristic, melodic voice on the trail and guardian ability alongside its hunting role.

A compact build suited to mountain work

It is medium-sized with a slightly rectangular outline and strong but not heavy bone. The standard describes mobility and resilience in difficult mountain conditions; separately, the undercoat is fuller in winter and thinner in summer. Colors include black and tan, brown and tan, and red shades.
