[1]Background
A large breed developed in New England, it is not descended from cat–raccoon crosses; that name-related story is a myth.
[1]Appearance
A long body, square muzzle, large ears and plumed tail are characteristic. Coat length varies from shorter shoulders to longer sides, belly and hindlegs.
[1]Coat and comparisons
Maturation is slow and males tend to be larger. The head differs from the triangular head of a Norwegian Forest Cat.
