[1]A smaller form derived from the Great Gascony Blue
The FCI standard lists the French Petit Bleu de Gascogne as standard No. 31 and describes it as a deliberate reduction in size of the Great Gascony Blue, linked to its working use.
[1]A pack hound particularly suited to hare hunting
The FCI standard describes a multipurpose hound used for hunting with the gun and sometimes for coursing. Hare is its favourite quarry, though it also adapts to big-game hunting. It has a fine nose and a good voice and works well in a pack.
[1]A short coat that appears blue from mottling
The coat is short and dense, appearing slate blue through black-and-white mottling. The FCI standard allows black patches and describes typical black patches on either side of the head with a white blaze, plus tan points above the eyes and on the cheeks.
