A hunting breed traced to the Magyar conquest of Hungary

The UKC standard describes the Hungarian Greyhound as an original hunting breed dating to the time when the Magyars conquered Hungary. It was used for sight coursing, also has a good nose, and is noted for long-distance racing.

A strong yet elegant sighthound

The breed has a strong yet elegant outline, slightly longer than tall, with developed bone and musculature. The UKC standard describes it as fast, tough and robust, with particular strength on the racetrack.

A short dense coat with several excluded colors

The coat is short, dense, coarse and smooth, with a thicker undercoat possible in cold climates. The UKC standard permits many colors but lists blue, blue and white, brown, wolf grey, black and tan, and tricolor as eliminating faults.
