A versatile German gundog developed around Münsterland, with a club formed in 1912 and a standard used from 1921. Small Munsterlander and Kleiner Münsterländer refer to this breed.

A strong balanced medium dog with a flowing outline. Dense glossy hair is straight or slightly wavy, with leg furnishings and a flagged tail carried horizontally.

Brown-and-white or brown-roan coats may have patches, a mantle, ticking or a white blaze. This is a distinct breed from the black-and-white Large Munsterlander, not simply its smaller size.
