[2]A farm dog from the northeast Netherlands
The Stabyhoun originated in the northeastern Netherlands. The UKC standard says it may descend from spaniels brought during the Spanish Occupation; its first written description dates to the early 1800s, and it served on farms as both hunter and watchdog.
[1]A rectangular pointing dog
The Stabyhoun is a balanced, sturdy, longhaired pointing dog with a rectangular outline. Its back is fairly long, the chest broader than it is deep, and the standard describes a powerful loin and hindquarters.
[1]Long hair that is not curly
The coat is long and smooth over the body and may be slightly wavy only over the croup, but it is never curly. Colors are black, brown or orange with white markings; ticking or roaning in the white is permitted.
