[1]A scenthound developed in Sweden
The UKC standard describes a Swedish hound formed from German and Polish scenthounds, English hounds and local Spitz-type dogs. Similar dogs of unknown pedigree were added to breeding in the 1950s, and the UKC recognized the breed in 2006.
[1]A sturdy, nearly square build
The UKC standard describes square proportions, a well-developed chest and a short, powerful back. The muscular loin is slightly arched. The tail may be long, half-length or naturally bobbed.
[1]A medium, harsh black-and-tan coat
The medium-length, harsh outer coat lies close over a well-developed undercoat. UKC specifies black and tan, permitting small white chest and toe markings; white elsewhere and liver-and-tan colouring are faults. Albinism is disqualifying.
