Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen

Temperament
Independent, Outgoing, Happy
[3]Background and human relationship
A low-legged French hound developed from the Grand Griffon. Selective breeding from the mid-nineteenth century shaped its build for hunting hare. It is a scent-working basset used with gun hunters.
[1]Build and coat
A slightly elongated body stands on straight forelegs, with balance preferred over excessive length or lowness. It is distinct from the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen; overall proportions matter alongside size.
[1]Colour and comparisons
Colours include black and white, black and tan, fawn and white, tricolour and black overlay. Traditional names such as hare and badger colour can be read alongside the visible ground colour, patches and dark areas.
