A Balearic herding and guard dog

The FCI standard places its origin in Spain’s Balearic Islands and lists herding, guarding and defence. It includes short- and long-haired varieties. UKC describes the alternate-named Ca de Bestiar as short-coated.

A strong, agile large dog

FCI describes a large, muscular, robust yet agile dog. Heights are 66–73 cm for males and 62–68 cm for females, with weight around 40 kg. Dogs up to 1 cm beyond those height limits are accepted with a deduction; these measurements remain distinct from UKC averages.

Two lengths of black coat

FCI gives about 1.5–3 cm on the back for the short coat. The long coat may slightly wave over the back and exceed roughly 7 cm depending on season, becoming longest in winter. Black is required, with limited white allowed on the chest, a narrow line below the neck and the feet. This is kept distinct from UKC’s short-coat scope.
