[1]A hound shaped in southern Tuscany
The FCI standard says the Segugio Maremmano arose from an unregistered hunting-dog population in the Maremma area of Tuscany, where it was present from the 1930s. It describes Tuscan hunters as developing it for the local environment.
[1]A scent hound used mainly for wild boar
FCI lists wild boar as its main quarry, also naming hare and other mammals. It describes a strong hunting drive, a voice that changes with the hunting phase, and work alone or in a pack.
[1]Short and rough coats in several colours
The short coat is harsh and dense, often with an undercoat; the rough coat is harsh and about 3–4 cm long. FCI permits fawn from light to rich tan, black and tan, and brindle, with possible white markings.
[1]A medium-sized dog with a slightly longer body
FCI gives a body-length-to-height ratio of 11:10. Males are 48–54 cm and 16–23 kg; females are 46–52 cm and 13–20 kg. A height tolerance of 2 cm either way applies to excellent specimens.
