Redbone Coonhound

Temperament
Eager to please, Even-tempered, Amiable
[2]Selected from red hunting dogs
The UKC standard says red dogs of unknown ancestry with proven ability to track and tree raccoons were once called Redbones. A hound pack obtained by George F. L. Birdsong in the 1840s formed the foundation of the modern breed.
[1]Trails and trees raccoons and other game
It is a coonhound that follows scent and trees game. The standard identifies raccoon hunting as its specialty and also describes trailing larger game such as bear and cougar.
[1]A deep-red, short glossy coat
It is a balanced, medium-sized hound with a short, close, glossy coat. Solid red is preferred, with a small amount of white on the brisket or feet permitted. Selective breeding reduced the black saddle markings found on early Saddlebacks.
