This powerful, agile, medium-sized dog tracks game by scent. It is used to tree squirrels and raccoons as well as hunt big game.
[1]A short, dense coat in varied colors
The coat is dense and close-fitting. The UKC standard permits black, blue, brindle, brown, red, yellow, blonde or buttermilk buckskin, with white markings allowed so long as they cover no more than one-third of the dog.
[1]Adult height and coat layers
UKC gives an adult height of 18–26 inches for males, about 45.7–66 cm, and 16–24 inches for females, about 40.6–61 cm. Weight must be proportionate to height, without a fixed numerical range. The short outer coat may be smooth or rough in texture, over a short, dense and soft undercoat.
