Wetterhoun

Temperament
Loyal, Intelligent, Good-natured
[3]A waterland hunting dog from Friesland
The FCI standard places the breed in Friesland in the northern Netherlands and records traditional otter and small-predator hunting as well as dog-cart work. It only suggests possible origins involving people or sailors from around the Baltic Sea.
[1]A compact, powerful build and an independent streak
The standard describes a square, compact, powerful dog whose height and body length are nearly equal. It says the Wetterhoun is naturally self-willed, affectionate as a family pet, watchful around the home and keen to catch vermin.
[1]Dense curls with black or brown base colors
Dense, firm curls form bundles with a coarse, greasy feel; the head and legs carry short hair. FCI lists black or brown with white chest or toe markings and also permits patches, ticking and roan.
