[1]A white hound from the eastern Adriatic
The FCI standard gives Croatia as its origin and describes it as descending from white hounds of the eastern Adriatic. A 1719 manuscript says its breeding was known before the 14th century, and the standard links the coarse coat with the cool mountain climate.
[1]Endurance for rough, hilly ground
This scent hound works on hare, fox and wild boar and can also track on a leash. Its strong rectangular body is suited to rocky, hilly terrain and difficult weather.
[1]A coarse coat with beard and brows
A harsh, slightly wavy outer coat about 5–8 cm long covers shorter, dense undercoat. Beard, moustache and eyebrows accompany a snow-white ground with orange patches, whose total area must not exceed one-third of the body under FCI’s standard.
