Black and Tan Coonhound

Temperament
Easy-going, Bright, Brave
[3]Background and human relationship
An American scent hound developed to trail animals such as raccoons and drive them into trees. Coon refers to raccoon; its scent-based working history helps explain the breed beyond its appearance.
[1]Build and coat
Strength and agility support a rhythmic, ground-covering gait. JKC emphasizes moderate bone and muscle suited to hunting. Body proportions and movement can be compared with foxhounds and other scent hounds.
[1]Colour and comparisons
Coal-black ground carries rich tan above the eyes, beside the muzzle and on chest and legs, with black pencilling on the toes. The placement of lighter areas conveys more than simply describing the coat as two-coloured.
